Bibimbob

Bibimbob (pronounced bee-bim-bob) is made from rice with meat, egg, and a variety of vegetables mixed with sauce made from Korean red bean paste.  This dish is delicious and nutritious, and the red bean paste can make it as spicy as you like.  Bibimbob is usually served as a complete meal.


Ingredients

  • Rice
  • Meat - You may use any type of meat you prefer.  Koreans usually use bulgogi (Korean sliced and seasoned beef).  We used ground turkey.
  • Eggs - One fried egg per dish.
  • Vegetables - You may use any cooked vegetables you like.  Traditional bibimbob contains soy bean sprouts, mu chae (Korean radish seasoned with red pepper), spinach, zucchini, and gosari (bracken fern stems).  We used mung bean sprouts, spinach, zucchini, and lettuce.
  • Red bean paste
  • Sugar
  • Vinegar
  • Soy sauce
  • Cola
  • Sesame oil

Fry the eggs to your taste.

Prepare the sauce.  These measurements are for one serving of bibimbob, and you should adjust to your taste.  Put about 2 tablespoons of Korean red bean paste into a bowl.  Add 1 teaspoon of sugar, a dash of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of cola, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.  Mix well.


Step 7

Prepare individual servings.  Place rice in a bowl.  Add cooked ground turkey, mung bean sprouts, spinach, zucchini, and lettuce.  Place 1 fried egg on top.  Add prepared red bean sauce to your taste.  Add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.  Mix well.

Serve and enjoy!
